This Loveland home had a serious deck problem. The wood was cracked, gray, and pulling apart in spots - the kind of wear that goes beyond what staining or sealing can fix. Multiple deck sections wrapped around the home, including an open-air lounge area, a covered porch section, and a walkway connecting it all. That's a lot of surface area, and all of it needed to go.
We pulled up every board of the old wood decking and replaced it with new composite decking throughout. The color we landed on is a clean gray tone that works with the brick exterior and the wooded backdrop. No painting, no staining, no annual maintenance headaches. Composite holds up to Ohio weather without warping, cracking, or fading the way wood does.
The railing was a full replacement too. Out went the old wood spindles and rails - in came black aluminum. It's a sharp contrast against the gray composite, and aluminum simply doesn't rust or rot. The posts are capped with matching black post caps that give the whole thing a finished, intentional look. We also added a black horizontal privacy screen on one of the lounge sections, which adds some separation from the neighbors without closing off the view of the backyard trees.
What makes this one stand out is the scale. This wasn't a simple rectangular deck off the back door. It wrapped around the home across multiple levels and sections - including coverage under an existing screened porch area. Getting consistent lines and clean transitions across all of that takes real attention to detail. Every section ties together, and the finished product looks like it was always supposed to be there.
Composite decking paired with aluminum railing is honestly one of the best long-term investments you can make in your outdoor space. You get the look of a well-built deck without the upkeep that wood demands every single year. If your current deck is past the point of saving, this is the kind of upgrade worth doing right.
